Interpretype, also known as ITY, is a communication system that provides "Universal Access to Conversation." It is a system designed for people with hearing impairments which promotes independent communication. The Interpretype system consists of two preprogramed mini computers that have the ability to communicate with other ITYs and/or Windows computers running ITY Communicator software. The program translates English in real-time/ instantly: Speech to text, Speech/Text to Video Sign-Language, and Speech/Text to Computer Generated Voice. Furthermore, the two laptops have Windows operating system, and virus protection software as well as they are preconfigured to connect to the internet for communication. In addition, on one computer, JAWS Pro Screen Reader software is installed and Freedom Scientific Focus 40 Blue Braille Display is installed on the other.
